Deciding where you should play poker online depends on a few key factors, the most important of which is what country you live in. Back in April of 2011, the United States prohibited certain gambling websites from operating in the U.S. The good news is that there are still a few great and perfectly legal options for U.S. players.

Other questions to ask yourself when choosing a site to play include: What games and stakes do you want to play? Do you want to also be able to bet on sports and casino games? How soft/easy are the current games on a given poker network? We tend not to care too much about the visual aesthetics of each site, but you might and that's okay! We've divided our reviews into two sections: U.S. Friendly sites, and ROW (rest-of-world) sites. We've chosen to focus only on the best online poker sites and ignore smaller "fringe" sites, since funds might not be safe there and game integrity might be questionable. Ignition is, in our opinion, the best place to play online poker in the United States. It's the 3rd largest poker network in the world, and we've been playing there for years and doing quite well year after year. There is around-the-clock cash game action at stakes up to $10/$20 No Limit Hold'em and PLO, and we enjoy the large tournaments they regularly host, including the $100k Guarantee every Sunday ($162 buy-in). The main drawback is that it's not directly compatible with PokerTracker4 or Hold'em Manager, but to be honest that keeps the games soft and full of recreational players.

BetOnline is another good option for US players. In addition to poker, it has a strong sportsbook and casino, which helps bring recreational players over to the poker client. It also offers unusual games such as 32 Card Draw, Americana, and 7 Card Stud, although it can be difficult to find action in those games, especially during off-hours. However, there is still plenty of around-the-clock traffic at No Limit Hold'em and PLO, especially at small stakes. Americas Cardroom is our #3 choice for online poker in the US. With plenty of traffic and excellent software, the main reason it ranks below Ignition and BetOnline is because of the toughness - games here tend to be filled with mostly professionals. The sites we've reviewed above are really the only three US online poker rooms that are worth playing on. There are a couple other fringe options for online poker in the US, such as Intertops, but there tends to be low traffic there, especially at stakes above $0.05/$0.10. In some cases, these fringe sites are not as reliable as the sites listed above in terms of cash out speed and game security.
